Real management: not blue-sky thinking but on the ground performance

It was great to watch Fiona McBride filming our ‘Everyday Management’ course as it brought home to us what managing people is really about, stripping away all the fluff surrounding what management is and brought it to brass tacks: how do you get things done through people and deal professionally and confidently with all the little day-to-day, hour-by-hour issues that come up?

So how do you get your team into good habits, deal with interruptions, what do you do if two people are arguing or someone is persistently late, or how do you close a conversation down? These are the issues that managers worry about, not how to conduct a SWOT analysis and Fiona took us through, step-by-step, how to do these things, and do them well. She showed us the difference between informal and formal management, and the various scenarios that arise and how to choose our approach. We often hear people talk about the ‘soft skills,’ but I think they’re the hardest of all to deal with. People don’t conform to laws of physics and so it can be tricky dealing with the ‘human’ issues. Fiona provides all the tools you’ll need to deal with whatever is thrown at you, and experience tells us there will be lots!
